NFL Playoff Picks 2017: Patriots Vs Steelers AFC Championship Matchup Odds

One of the best matchups among the NFL playoffs of 2017 is going to be the AFC Championship featuring the two perennial Super Bowl contestants, Pittsburgh Steelers and the New England Patriots. Both these have built a great history for the past many years. The matchup also features a duo of the all-time amazing quarterbacks in Ben Roethlisberger of Pittsburgh and Tom Brady of New England. It will therefore be definitely a thrilling game, but surely won’t be a simple one to pick a winner!

According to the Lock Gods, one of the top handicappers, this game is a battle between two prospective Hall of Fame quarterbacks fighting for the right of representing the AFC in Super Bowl. Roethlisberger and Brady have combined to win half a dozen of Super Bowls and have continuously battled for dominance in the conference across their careers. The Patriots have high expectations to represent the AFC again in 2017 as almost a touchdown favorite in this matchup, but don’t even discount the underdog yet.

The Steelers won the regular season by 11-5 and thereby the AFC North division and confirmed the No.3 seed in the playoffs.  In the first round of playoffs they hosted Miami as 11-point favorites and continued both, to win 30-12 and cover the spread to head to the playoffs’ Divisional Round. Last weekend they met with a much harder test against the No.2 seeded Chiefs in Kansas City. Without scoring a touchdown and as 1.5-point underdogs, they could collect six field goals and won an 18-16 game that came in the final minutes.

Wagering on the Steelers in 2017 has given profits since they went 9-7 ATS (against the spread) in the regular season and have continued that by covering the spread so far in both playoff games. If postseason is included, the Steelers are 11-5 against the spread this year having Big Ben under center.

The Patriots were 14-2 this year and cruised to one more AFC East division title and this involved playing four matches without a suspended Brady at the beginning of the season. The Pats were 11-1 when Brady was beginning, with their single loss at home coming in Week 10 against the Seattle Seahawks. They locked up a bye courtesy of the top seed and hosted the Texans in the Divisional Round this past Saturday. The Texans were not given much of a shot by the oddsmakers, making them huge 16-point underdogs. The Pats proved it was the correct call and headed to win 34-16, covering that massive spread in the process.

The Patriots have been the best NFL team to bet on since it offered a very beneficial 13-3 ATS in the regular season (and also 14-3 ATS now if the postseason is included). If only the games in which Brady started are considered, the Pats were 10-2 ATS in the regular season and overall 11-2 ATS.

All in all, New England are an amazing team, but the Pittsburgh match up well on the ball’s both sides and will keep this a close match at least, if not pull out the complete upset.
